There are two main reasons why you will see ants pop up in your yard or home.

1) Temperature & Season

2) Access to Food & Water

Temperatures and Season

The seasons where the temperature is at its hottest and its coldest are some the most common times of year to see ant activity. For example the Summer and Winter months are the most common to see activity because the heat and cold forces them to look for alternate sources of food, water, and shelter.

During the winter months you may not be seeing that many ants. It's a common belief that during the colder the months that the temperature naturally eliminates ants. Unfortunately that is not true, ants can survive some of the most extreme temperatures both in the summer and winter.

Some of the most common places to see them in the winter is on the inside of the home because they are looking for new food supplies.

Access To Food & Water

We try to tell everyone that we service that during peak ant season to really try to not leave food and sugary beverages out for long periods of time. Leaving food or snacks out like this is one of the fastest ways to attract ants in your home.

Depending on the type of ant, some can detect food up to miles away.
